Arcadia Unified School District Libraries

Arcadia Unified School District is happy to announce an unpaid library technician internship!

This internship is available in Fall 2018 

[NOTE: Previous interns  have found this a valuable, well rounded experience]

Two internships are available for the FALL 2018 term (August  27 - December 14, 2018).
These positions are unpaid.

Deadline to apply for FALL 2018: Friday August 31, 2018 by Noon. 

This will primarily involve work at Arcadia High School Library, but learning experiences may also include work at other K-8 libraries in the district.

NOTE: Enrollment in the LIB 106 Library Technology Internship course is required.  LIB 106 requires a minimum of 60 hours work experience and prerequisite courses: LIB 101 and LIB 104. Completion of LIB 105A is recommended for this internship.

Internship hours must be scheduled during Library operational hours and completed during the PCC Spring term.

Current library hours available are Monday - Friday 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.   

Duties may include:

Technical Services:

*Weeding and removing catalog records

*Cataloging new library books

*Process new library books or textbooks

*Repair damaged books and materials using provided materials

*Assist with re-organizing textbook room, sets of textbooks, fiction and nonfiction materials, etc.

*Assist with updating collections as needed, including re-cataloging and processing

*May assist with the launch of projects or makerspaces across the school district

Public Services

*Assist librarians at circulation desk when needed

        *Other duties as required

   Qualifications

*Must be currently enrolled in the Library Technology Certificate Program at PCC

*Must be comfortable working with students in grades K-12, teachers, parents, and volunteers

*Knowledge of standard library practices

*Prerequisite/Co-requisite: Coursework in cataloging, processing, and repairing books and materials

*Use Follett Destiny to catalog materials (can train.)

*Ability to learn new computer program quickly

*Knowledge of Dewey Decimal System preferred (can train.)

*Ability to lift 25-50lbs

*Ability to work independently

*Detail oriented and organized

  • If selected, interns will be required to be fingerprinted and to provide a negative TB test to Arcadia Unified School District prior to beginning the internship.
