Internship Descriptions 

(General)  one position

Braille Institute is a private, nonprofit organization that through educational training, programs and services, helps tens of thousands of people each year regain and maintain their independence. Thanks to generous donations, Braille Institute services are available free of charge.
Assist library staff with a variety of projects and activities, in order to improve and promote accessible library technology, braille literacy, and audiobook circulation. Projects include assisting visually impaired users over the telephone, helping people with new technology, learning how audiobooks circulate through the Braille Institute network, and assisting with gathering statistical information for reports. 

(Digitization) one position

Assist library staff with an archival and digitization project that will support the upcoming Centennial celebration at Braille Institute, which is scheduled to begin in 2018. The student intern will work the Director of Library Services to uncover, catalog, digitize, and/or prepare historical materials in a variety of formats. The end result will be a traveling historical exhibit.  The position requires interests in librarianship, archives, digitization, and technology.

Desired Skills and Experience:

Both positions require interests in specialized librarianship and technology and a desire to help visually impaired people, and strong communication and technology skills, and: Problem Solving, Basic Computer Skills, Administrative Support, Verbal / Written Communication, People Skills, Library Sciences  

available for Fall 2017

NOTE: Enrollment in the LIB 106 Library Technology Internship course is required.  LIB 106 requires a minimum of 60 hours work experience and prerequisite courses: LIB 101 and LIB 104.
 

Hours The four-hour per week time commitment can be completed anytime Monday – Friday, from 8:30 – 4:00 p.m.
