Legal Resources: Books at PCC

This resource provides California Codes (CA State Level Laws) as well as helpful annotations that you can look up to get more information on any particular law. Each section of law has it's own index at the end. These codes are keyword searchable online at https://www.leginfo.ca.gov/calaw.html. The helpful annotations provided by West's Publishing are what differentiate this resource from the government's online version.

With the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Series, West's California Reporter's multivolume collection has California cases since the late 1950's. Your instructor will usually provide the Case Name, California Reporter Volume, Series, and Page number. If not, use West's Cal Digest 2d Table of Cases Vol. 48-53 located at REF 348.794046 W1 and look up your case to find the apppropriate California Reporter.

West's California Digest Table of Cases vols. 48-53 may be used as an index for finding where a case is located in the California Reporter or other reference law books by West Publishing.

The Pacific Reporter contains cases from not just California, but for the other states in the West Coast region. Therefore it is a regional case law reporter.

The first series from 1884 contains all the decisions of the Supreme Courts of California, Colorado, Kansas, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, Idaho, Montana, Washington, Wyoming, Utah and New Mexico.

The Second Series from 1931 to 2000 has cases argued and determined in the Supreme Courts of California, Kansas, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Montana, Arizona, Nevada, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, New Mexico, Oklahoma; District Courts of Appeal and Appellate Department of the Superior Court of California and Criminal Court of Appeals of Oklahoma, with Key-number annotations.

The third series covers opinions and decisions from 2000 to date issued by the state courts of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. Cases published in this product series are enhanced with headnotes, Key Numbers and synopses prepared by West's internal staff of highly trained attorney editors.

When cited, the Pacific Reporter, Pacific Reporter Second and Pacific Reporter Third are abbreviated "P.", "P.2d" and "P.3d", respectively.
