Proxy URL generator: New URLs for PCC Databases

This guide will turn an article link generated by a database into one that will work from off-campus.

Do you have a link to library resources such as databases, articles, or streaming videos? If so, read on for a change you need to make for Spring 2024!

What is changing?

The technology is called a proxy server. It allows members of the PCC community to use their LancerPoint logins to access library databases such as ProQuest, EBSCOhost and Swank from off-campus.

How does it affect me / my students?

The proxy server is changing for California Community Colleges. If you use any links (URLs) to databases, articles, ebooks or videos that come from library databases, these links will be affected by the change.

What does the change look like?

If you’re using links that begin like this…

https://login.ezp.pasadena.edu/login?url=

…they need to change to begin with this, instead:

            https://pasadenacc.idm.oclc.org/login?url=

What do I need to do, and when?

Whether you’ve put links in Canvas or saved them elsewhere, you’ll need to change them for Spring 2024.

You can use this tool to help convert your old links: https://libguides.pasadena.edu/proxyurl/new

Existing links will continue to work through the February 15, 2024, but you can begin using the new links right away and contact us if you run into any issues.

Questions?

If you have questions or would like help with making changes to links that you use, please contact us at librarian@pasadena.edu, and we’ll be glad to assist.

Thank you!
