One City, One Story: 2019: In the Distance

Research guide dedicated to Pasadena's One City, One Story selection.

On Thursday, March 7, 2019, from 11am to 12:30pm, author Hernan Diaz will visit Pasadena City College's Creveling Lounge (CC Building). He will read from and discuss In the Distance, the 109 selection for Pasadena's One City One Story community book celebration. A Q&A and book signing will follow. In the Distance, a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and the PEN / Faulkner Award for Fiction, is Diaz’s debut novel. Set in the unforgiving landscape of the American West in the mid-1800s, the book charts a young Swedish immigrant’s epic, solitary quest to reunite with his brother. Raised in Argentina and Sweden, Diaz is the managing editor of RHM and the associate director of the Hispanic Institute at Columbia University. He is also the author of Borges, Between History and Eternity. This event is free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase. Presented by PCC Library in conjunction with the Pasadena Public Library.
