OER & ZTC: Open Educational Resources and Zero Textbook Cost Options

A guide for faculty and students about OER and ZTC at Pasadena City College

ASCCC's OERI, CCCOER, and other OER-focused organizations host monthly webinars (sometimes even more frequently). When available, they will be listed here.

Tuesday, November 30, 10:00 am - 11:00 am; Building a Community of Like-Minded Historians

Last semester, the History webinar, OER and History, offered an overview of available resources. Where do we go from here? What's missing and how can we collaborate to fill those gaps? How can we build a community of like-minded historians in CCC? Join us for an open discussion with History instructors about OER.

Thursday, December 2, 1:00 - 2:00 pm; Using Virtual Environments to Teach Computer Science

Computer science, like many of the sciences, includes more than lectures, readings, research, and writing papers. It also includes the necessity of computers to program, networks to configure, and systems that you can destroy and recreate if necessary. There is a plethora of solutions for the writing of computer software - all at no cost to the user. When the need is for computer system/network to configure or to debug, it becomes a bit more of a challenge. Join us for this important discussion on how to use no cost solutions to address some of our teaching challenges.

Friday, December 3, 10:30 - 11:30 am; Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Anti-Racism (IDEA) - A Process for Reviewing and Improving Courses and Course Resources

The ASCCC OERI has developed a framework for reviewing and improving existing OER with respect to IDEA. The ASCCC OERI's IDEA Framework may be applied not only to OER, but also to commercial and instructor-developed resources to determine if they are appropriate for our students. Join us for a review of the developed framework and a consideration of discipline-specific issues that warrant attention. Assist the OERI in identifying next steps in this evolving approach to improving course resources and student success.
